Meet Kandiss Hearn, APRN, FNP-C

As is often the case, our upbringing and childhood events inform our paths as adults. It is truly no surprise that a fair skinned, red headed girl from Troup, Texas whose mom owned a tanning salon found her way to a career in Dermatology. Her journey into the medical world began with acquiring an LVN from Kilgore College in 2011. She followed through with additional training leading to an associate degree in nursing From Lamar State College in 2014, and a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Texas in 2018. After working as an assistant in a large dermatology clinic where she met the founder of Dermatology of East Texas, she set her sights on Nurse Practitioner Training. Shortly after completion, she and Dr. Lowry joined forces once again. She has experience in the fields of oncology and geriatric medicine, a great contribution to understanding the complexities many of these patients present when juggling multiple medications and physical challenges. As a case worker for assisting patients with those difficult logistics questions her exposure to and tackling of the peripheral practicalities of patient needs supports and enhances her true passion for taking care of the whole patient. When asked what she most likes about practicing in the dermatology world, she will quickly offer a love for puzzles and trying to figure things out. Her listening and problem-solving skills, willingness to dive into the latest research, and grasp of the individuality of each patient and their situation serve her well. Now with three years of working with the physicians at Dermatology of East Texas, she has become a valued extension, increasing accessibility for patients in need of timely visits. When not wearing the white coat, she can be found hauling mineral blocks to the cattle she raises with her husband, or mountain biking with her family. We are fortunate to have Kandiss as part of our team!
